SEC. 802. AUTHORITY FOR TEMPORARY
SERVICE OF PRINCIPAL MILITARY DEPUTIES TO THE ASSISTANT
SECRETARIES OF THE MILITARY DEPARTMENTS FOR ACQUISITION AS
ACTING ASSISTANT SECRETARIES. (a) Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology.--Section 3016(b)(5)(B) of title 10, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new sentence: ``In the event of a vacancy in the position of Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology, the Principal Military Deputy may serve as Acting Assistant Secretary for a period of not more than one year.''. (b) Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development, and Acquisition.--Section 5016(b)(4)(B) of such title is amended by adding at the end the following new sentence: ``In the event of a vacancy in the position of Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development, and Acquisition, the Principal Military Deputy may serve as Acting Assistant Secretary for a period of not more than one year.''. (c) Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition.--Section 8016(b)(4)(B) of such title is amended by adding at the end the following new sentence: ``In the event of a vacancy in the position of Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, the Principal Military Deputy may serve as Acting Assistant Secretary for a period of not more than one year.''. |

Secretaries (sec. 802)
The Senate bill contained a provision (sec. 802) that would amend sections 3016(b)(5)(B), 5016(b)(4)(B), and 8016(b)(4)(B) of title 10, United States Code, to allow Principal Military Deputies to serve in an acting capacity if there is a vacancy in the position of the Service Acquisition Executive. The House amendment contained no similar provision. The House recedes. |
